Note on reproduction

REPRODUCTION = A biological process in which an organism gives rise to  young ones similar to itself in most of the charracters. Reproduction is essential for survival aswell as continuation of species. In a species, there is a cycle of birth, growth,mature to take part in reproduction and finally death.                                                                Types of reproduction:- (1) Sexual reproduction (2) Asexual reproduction    Sexual reproduction:- when two parents participate in the reproductive process and also involves formation and fusion of male and female gametes,it is called sexual reproduction.   Characteristics of sexual reproduction:-  (1) It is biparental i.e two individuals of opposite sexes are required.  Ex= Taenia , Faaciola, etc.          (2) Involves formation and fusion of gametes.  (3) Unit of reproduction is gamete.  (4)  Plays impotant role in evolution.  Ex- Higher plant and animal.    Puberty:- Puberty is the period of sexual maturity. It is achieved between 13 to 16 years in male and 10 to14 yaers in females. Testosterone in males and estrogen in female caused controle puberty. At puberty primary sex organ becomes functional. Puberty is characterised by development of secondary sexual characters.                      * Secondary sexual character = Have no role in reproduction. Establish sexual diamorphism. Cause of attraction between opposite sexes.
